Once we nabbed nicely out of the way chairs in the corner of the room, Husband of the century and I proceeded to sit back and relax. We played that fun game called, “Who the hell is that?” Considering this was not our own families we were considerably hobbled in our knowledge. After confirming the following meal was to be free, gratis, and on the house, we relaxed. Being somewhat financially embarrassed (flat broke) at this time, we were both considering building our meal around soup and the usual free bread on offer.
The meal was quite decent, probably made all the more better due to the fact it was free, gratis, and on the house and of the usual feed the masses variety, with the crowd being a polite mob and not trampling the kids in the rush for the better bits. Being the types we are, in other words not frightened of *PDA’s, we had various strangers either taking happy snaps of us, or telling us to separate, because it was a family event. In both cases we carried on like grinning newly weds, ignored them completely and enjoyed ourselves.
Wonder kid again gave her best, displaying table manners that would put a few adults to shame, along with her willingness to go and amuse the nappy clad and wandering part of the guest list in between courses. While my mother who shall be know has She who is confused, found a soul mate in another lady of similar age with ties to various parts of the old dart in common. Needless to say these two ladies had a lovely evening playing the game of “Do you remember?”
It was a lovely low key event, with an early end, and everyone enjoying themselves and behaving nicely. Except for that woman who insisted on having some of the helium balloons, suspended from about five foot of ribbon trailing out of her hand bag and floating in the air above her when she left.
No prizes for guessing who.
